Cure and WoW did try to talk to Wowmatrix before they did this. They
talked to one of the two sites and wowmatrix offered them something that was
like only 1/10 of what wowmatrix costs them and when they said no to that
they never heard from wowmatrix again. So wowmatrix appears to have no
interest in paying for the bandwidth they consume and unless they do there
is nothing that can be done except what what just done.
From a user standpoint, the solution seems to be that they all find a
common ground and learn to get along.
Wowmatrix makes what curse and wowui have easily usable by players. Curse
and wowui supply the info used by wowmatrix. Seems like a meeting of minds
is the best solution for all concerned, including those who use the end
product. Let’s cross our fingers it is not so. If wowmatrix find a workaround and
keeps taking addons from curse and wowui those sites will shut down and
we will not be able to get many addons at all anymore and that would be bad for everybody.
I ignored the stories and kept using wowmatrix. I was even able to update some of the addons that needed it this morning, but I got a message that questhelper website was down. There have been a few problems, but mostly with questhelper, which I disabled temporarily. Most of the other addons seem to work just fine. I tend to agree with whoever said it, that by weekend wowmatrix will figure out a workaround. Let’s cross our fingers that it is so.
